    Re: flying away

your image is very grainy and full of noise, you see it so much in the sky and in the water, for such a close up shot and daylight ,your settings are way off ,i suspect your iso is cranked up big time to get so grainy,my d50 doesn't produce anywhere near like that, as for the composition its a great shot having a cooperative bunch of pooping birds waiting for their next bombing raids to begin, is quite comical. ( check your setting ! ) thanks for sharing.

    Re: flying away

The camera settings were appropriate for what you wanted I would guess. ISO 320, 1/750 , at f9.0. Stopped down to have the whole line up of seagulls sharp. There is noise in this image but I am not too concerned with it. The framing and moment is good. the red tower coming off the back of the flying gulls head is not ideal. . .could be removed.
I do feel there is a red, magenta color cast that could be balanced but other than that I like this.

    Re: flying away

Very nice. I agree that there appears to be a color cast and it would benefit from some noise reduction. The composition I think is quite good, good job shooting this just so and getting all those elements in it. I think the seagulls on the right could have been a bit more cooperative ;) maybe if the one that is completely cut off wasn't in it.. Or if the primary ones right wing was cut off less, but just a minor thing I think.

Good work, if you're inclined personally I'd like to see how it comes out with color cast correction and noise reduction. I think it might really raise the photo to an additional level.

    Re: flying away

I like the idea. but if you would step back and get the first bird in focusand make look like they are landing on at a time. But I like it maybe next time post a little smaller pic.lol

It would be better if those birds on the right are not clipped.

    Re: flying away

I think the better pic would have been without the 2 flying birds looking down the fence.

Lot's of noise and the color cast is off.

Thanks a lot for the critique everyone..

Gary, right on, that is in SheepsHead Bay.

here are two different copy of the same pic., hope they work better.
    BTW:
    took this picture with a D2Hs and 17-35mm 2.8 AFS, the D2Hs is a noise camera. :/

    cheers

To me the noise looks like JPG artifacts.

    Re: flying away

I like the composition. I think the birds on the right of the picture help create the idea of a squadron taking off in sequence. I envision the rest of the birds on the railing taking off and following their colleagues.

    Re: flying away

I love that big freakin' bird on the right side (!!!) That's scary, almost like "The Birds" of yesteryear. Too bad more of him doesn't show. The birds on the rail are funny, almost seem cloned.
