Flowers and waterfalls from a hike

I went on a hike and took 121 pictures, here are the six best ones, you can comment on any of them. I like them all... any suggestions for any of them?

That will be all for a while.

i like the first flower shot the best. it looks like the water fall shots are exposed to long, making the water to kahotic (sp?). although the last one isn't to bad. i like the setting of the first waterfall, but would like to see more environment at the bottom to match the top more ( which i like). and thats a good paintbrush shot, they are hard to get(maybe cause all mine have a desert background).

All of these are very nice. I especially like the bee, the 2nd waterfall shot, and the wonderfully sharp paintbrush. Composition looks good on your images as well.

I'm amazed at your waterfall shots because everytime I try something like that I blow the exposure totally. Which is why to this date I haven't a single decent waterfall shot, lol.

Thanks for the comments. I didnt think the paintbrush would turn out as good as it did, and I guess it could still be more sharp, but it is good for now I think. As for the waterfalls, I like to see the water over a long exposure, so that's just a personal preference, plus I know that it looks good that way. I dont think waterfall shots are hard, just make the aperture a larger number and slow down the shutter for shots like I have.
As for the first waterfall, there were no more trees that could have filled the lower part of the pic, or else they would have. ;)

Good choice of SS on the water shots. I will you somehow could have gotten the flowers in the waterfall photos, the best of both! Next time maybe. I like the 2nd flower shot best, with the purples jumping out towards the camera............

These are all great. About what shutter speed do you use for the water falls? I like the blue flowers best.

Yep, my waterfall experience exactly--I've tried and tried for that cotton candy effect and cannot get the right exposure!

    Beautiful shots!

i wasn't sayign you shouldn't blurr it, i was trying to say ( maybe not very well) that it seem like you left it open to long. They seem to have to much splash outside the normal flow, and are blown out at some parts.

Re: Flowers and waterfalls from a hike

The first waterfall may look blown out because of the filtered sunlight. I use a shutter around 4-10 to get the right effect and maybe f/22. Good thing I took pics of the blue/purple flowers, I didnt think it would look like much, but it does.

    the flowers do look awesome.

for the waterfalls do you bracket them? i usually shoot about 5-8 shots until i find the exposure that looks the best ( or shoot them and wait until i can see them on a big screen). and then you have steps with minimal differences between to pick the best one.

A polarizing filter would do wonders on the blown-out leaves in the first waterfall pic and would help with some of the blown out portions of the water. Sometimes with my waterfall pictures I also do some burning in photoshop in the blown-out portions of water which can help.

I have a UV filter, but that's it. And yes, I take many shots and choose the best one. Sometimes that can be very hard over 10 shots, but this one was easy to decide, for all the shots here.
