    Florida Dock

Hi guys, I'm new and needed to start somewhere... What do you think?
I took this picture last May when visiting my family in Florida with a Nikon Coolpix 3100. I've since upgraded to a Pentax *ist DS.

Jason - Welcome to our humble photog bulletin board!

I like the shot but I think it would be stronger with the top 1/3 cropped out, for it doesn't add anything to the photo. Looks like you got away with one cause the sky was somewhat hazy and therefore didn't completely silluette the pier, though it did somewhat...

    A decent overall shot!

    I love this shot.
The angle at which the dock/bridge is shot at, the reflection of the sun on the water and the way the sky looks. Nicely done! <3

That's awesome you live in Denver.

Good work, Jason. The lighting and soft colors, and placement of the dock is working well here. i agree about cropping out some sky, but still works well as it is. Great mood here. Welcome to the forum

I'm the only one so far but I'd rather see the bottom bush cropped out as well as a bit of the sky. I tried here and my did make a difference! to me anyway. I'll post a sample of the crop I had in mind below. Very tranquil colours btw, I specially love the part of the bridge where the sun's reflection shines through. good job jason.

    Jason,

Welcome to the boards and I hope you become a regular poster in the future. Along with what everybody else pointed out, the only thing I can add is I wouldn't of mind seeing the sun off centred (rule of thirds) to balance the end ot the dock. Overall though, a great first shot.

    Welcome,

    Jared

I love this. I, too, would like to see the top 1/3 cropped off but with or without it's lovely!

The cropping off the foreground bushes has created a tighter n neater compo to the pic , lovely sunset !

    Thanks for all the replies!

I have a version of this picture with out any bushes in the foreground, but my ex-girlfriend (a professional photographer) was always scolding me for not having anything in the foreground of my pictures, so I left it in.

Cropping the sky a little is an idea I didn't think of and it looks good. Thanks Leels.
