    Florida Canal

Taken a couple of days ago. Although it was shot at midday, the canal was dark.
I used 1/1000 because I did not have a tripod with me. ISO 100 to retain quality.
The white heron was too far so I used my 70-210 zoom at maximum.
I will welcome critiques so I can become a better photographer in the future.

Welcome to the forums and jumping right in for a critique.
On your first photo there is just too much contrast with the bright light on the heron and tree reflection. If you'd shot even faster then the rest would be too dark.
However, especially if you shot in raw format, you might be able to recover a lot of the dark area with photoshop.

Welcome to the forums. It's hard to zoom in close to the bird when you don't have the equipment to do so. I think the bird's too far away though you did the best you could. I like the tree reflection. Try cropping out the right side water so that you get a tall slender format, which may look pretty nice.

The pic of the bridge is OK, I like it's depth and calmness. I REALLY like the shot of the glass, but wish that the shadow, which is a big part of the image, wasn't clipped off at the bottom. The exposure is outstanding and the sharpness is good.

Hope to see more in the future -
