    Flag/Night

New to photography review. I took this shot tonight and figured it was a good ice-breaker for the Critiques forum.

    Handheld, Nikon D70, 80-200mm @ 200mm, f/2.8, 1/20 sec., ISO 1600.

Oh no, an RBR invasion! Good to see you here.

That's pretty impressive for being handheld @ 200mm. I think the powerlines are killing it though.

    Canon EOS 350D
    Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM
    Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC
    Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG
    Canon 50mm f/1.8 II

I wasn't sure about the powerlines. How's this?

Btw, you have some great portraits in your flickr site.

    Thanks!

This one is much better. Great edit -- I can't see any traces of the cloning.

It's a shame there wasn't a decent breeze blowing. The color held up really well considering the ISO.

I didn't edit. I just called the Mayor's office and had them take down the power lines.

I spent a good amount of time in Capture NX fine-tuning the color temperature/white balance. Thanks for the tip. I agree that it works much better with the power lines out.

    DrRoebuck, are you a surgeon???

@200mm 1/20 handheld.... that is really impressive!

Personally though i think although without the power lines it is much better... it is somewhat of a tight crop... and the pole seems to be a little tilted to the left!

I like how the colors reflect night time... that was a great job!

Looking forward to some more photos!

Have him put the lines back.

With the lines you have an unusual flag photo, with them out it is an ordinary photo and ordinary don't make good images.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Thanks! LOL ... I'm not even a doctor. I took about 20 shots and had one or two that came out usably clean.

I don't have many options re: the composition and/or the crop. My vantage point was basically from one spot, across the street from the one-story building with the flagpole on it. And yeah, I had a real hard time with the tilt. Maybe it was my angle, but the lines are not consistent. I basically went leveled the image based on the vertical lines in the middle of the building.

Sigh ... and I was ambivalent before ...

    You may have a point.
