    Re: Fixing Umbrella

1st one is much better than the 2nd one.

I feel the 2nd while having good focus on the subject, it is filled with other elements that don't add to it. the foreground people walking across add only framing to the shot. For such a small contribution they are taking way too much of the frame for my liking. The fact that they are just bodies walking across doesn't help. If one had his wallet out and it showed a lot of cash or if they showed any kind of wealth, i think this might have been better.

In the 1st photo. I like context. The photo shows this man's business setup. What he's working on and what he has on sale. The only minor issue is the handle of the umbrella covering his right away.

I think the first image is stronger because it is easier to tell what they subject is. The 2nd one is harder. Also, the selective color does not work well in the 2nd - I don't think. For the first, it's ok ...but I think it would be a strong image even without that ...just all color is fine ...

To be honest, I find the spot color quite distracting. I think this is a personal thing though, and others may love it. Both shots are interesting and have a strong human element, but I agree that there's a lot of distracting elements and/or blockage in both. Still, I find them drawing me in.

    Re: Fixing Umbrella

For the first image, the selective color does not seem to work well in this photo.

If you are going for creative color feeling, would it work better if you are using dual tone type of color editing here? And doing some little bit of dodging on the man and the umbrella to pt in alittle bit more focus on the main subjects.

I agree with Leels that the second picture, with the use of the two person to frame up the picture, does not look good.
For this particular picture itself, I think one of the way to make it look better is to crop out and make it tighter. Crop to completely remove the foreground person on the left, just left with the person on the right and the main subject. Also crop slightly the bottom part of the image.
And the selective coloring does not work here too.
