    First week on a DSLR

I thought I would share some of my first pics with my first DSLR (point and shooter before this)

    Nikon D50 18-55mmf/3.5-5.6G (kit lens)

I've had the camera bug for a while and a guy at work was upgrading from this very lightly used camera, so I got it for a steal. Now to work on taking better quality photos.

Here are some pics from my first week with the camera.

    1. Sunset off the coast. (needs to be rotated slightly)

    2. Looking out from a waterfall

    3. Orchid

    4. What are you looking at?

    5. Playing with light.

Looks like a good start to me. The bird in that photo looks kind of soft though.

Great exposure, color and background on this one.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I really like number one, I'm just a stickler for ocean and ship scenes. Great composer on all of them, enjoy the D50 it is a great piece of equipment.

Thanks for the comments. I'll have to start posting more so that you guys can rip them apart. Seems like you are being nice to the new guy.

Just post one image at a time and you will likely get more detailed critiques of that image. Post a bunch and you will only get general impressions.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I own both a D50 and a D80 and I have never regretted buying them. Your pictures are very nice. I like them. You have a very sharp photographic eye. I agree with you that the first picture needs to be rotated somewhat. It is hard to get the horizon straight while taking pictures by the ocean. I have made that same mistake.

Re: First week on a DSLR

Good first week. I like them all, but find the parrot one the best. Sharpen it up and increase the contrast a little and maybe something else and see what you have. The flower shot could also use the same. As MB said, it's a little hard to eval shots when there's this many posted together, unless they're part of a series. Hope to see more in the future,
