First try at a night shot

You have all inspired me to try new and different things so I went out last night and tried to take some night shots. I went to a local shopping center at 9:30 P.M. I figured it would be clearing out since most of the stores are closed at that time. Boy was I wrong! That place was booming and full of cars and people. I wasn't able to photograph the area that I wanted because of all of the cars and activity but I tried a few shots of another area. I don't have my exposure quite right. I can see that some of the lit signs are kind of blown out a bit. I'll try again another night. Any critique is welcome. Please tear it up, I want to learn.

Re: First try at a night shot

Not a bad first attempt at all. I like the angle of the buildings and you seem to have gotten a nice amt of light and dark here. The "Beyond" text is a little over-exposed, but other than that it all works.

A word about the car light trails: I think that it works to either have none or to have many. One like this appears to be a mistake (or a situation you couldn't do anything about). Not sure how to stop those pesky cars... perhaps you can park your car sideways with your blinkers on just outside the frame to block the street, take the shot, get in and bolt the scene ....

Like I said, NICE first shot.

It's fun to see how they come out. Things like this are rarely perfect because there are too many things to consider. The trouble with is shot for me is that it seems to have been chosen arbitrarily. You probably could have picked a more interesting spot.

What Don said rings true...Yet this is nice work for a rookie Err.... I mean first timer.Hahaha. J.K.
I have tried including car trails in several shots also.
One car just never did feel right. I look for the traffic light signal, then decide.
