I have kids so I know this shot ;) More emphasis on the child would be nice I think, maybe more of the shadow and less of the street behind. Not bad really.

Great shot. Maybe try an omni-light so as to dim the background around the girl a little bit (in Photoshop). If that's your first try, then you just took a better shot than most people do by their tenth.

I think kid pics work best when you get down to their level, might have got your knees wet though.
This is a cute shot that any parent would take but if you want something better you need to watch the background. In this case you can crop a lot off the top without losing anything.
The light was horrendous but nothing you could do about that. I like how you got the water coming up from her boots.

I like the motion captured and the undeniable joy the girl is getting from jumping in the puddle.

I agree that a top crop would help focus more attention on the intended subject.

What camera and lens did you use?

Frog is definitely right - you need to get down for these shots. A lower angle would have given us a better look at the child's expression and added quite a bit to the photo.

I think it helps when shooting kids to get eyeball level with them. I also feel it's to centered and the childs head needs to be in the upper third of the shot. You might could crop a little off of the top. Nice subject and idea.
