    First sunset with D70

Tried a sunset for the first time with the D70.
    Taken at 6:45 pm...Landscape Mode...75mm...1/250 sec @ f10
Processed with trial version of Nikon Capture 4
Wind chill was in the 20's....so if you detect any blur at all, there's the reason.

I debated whether or not to crop this off at the far telephone pole or just leave it as a pano. What would your choice be?

Nice shot, good composition. though cliche for me. The cars a tad distracting, but I still like it.

    Good shot.

good composition, maybe a polarizer couldve helped. could have definitely done without the phone lines and car though.

Anbesol---yeah, a polarizer could have helped. Don't have one though .

Jared---I was wondering if the cars would be a distraction, and maybe could have made the scene a little more silhouetted. I'll play some more with it. This being the first, I wanted to see if I could do it and have it turn out halfway decent. The place I shot this from isn't exactly the most scenic spot in the world;) . When the weather really gets nicer, I'll be looking for good spots. It's a pretty average scene as far as aesthetics go. But as far as a trial run, I can live with it.

    John,

Even burning them or cloning them out so they run with the silhouette on the bottom portion of the picture would work well IMO.

Rebel, I don't know if you knew it or not, but it's considered bad form to correct other peoples' photos without permission. Not that I'm all upset about it, but there might be someone who will be. Besides, I went and did it anyway, and you are correct...it does look better. Thanks

Liz......that wasn't my edit. RebelXT went ahead and did that. I don't think he was aware of the policy about editing other folks' work. ;)

    Whoops! Sorry!

However, nothing he did takes away from the beautiful image which is your work. I think editing the distractions out didn't change anything else. And you did a good job.

    swmdrayfan,
I do not think that rebel meant anything bad by it. I think he was trying to help. I have tried to help by editing pictures as well, sometimes it works better then trying to type out an explanation, most people appreciate it. I guess some get offended. Regardless, I think it would look best with the power lines gone but the car left, I think the car, the way it was originally, since it was not a complete silouhette, made it unique and a little different then everyone elses sunset that we have seen a hundred times.

No harm--no foul . Appreciate the effort to help. As a matter of fact, I'd just finished the edit myself and was about to post it when I saw yours. Welcome to the forum.

I'm cool with Rebel.......I understand he's new and wasn't aware of it.

    :-) thanks..

and might i leave a tip i found for editing skies? Use the bandage healing tool, the one without the square or whatever behind it. It helps to erase and evenly blend things from skies and textures, instead of the clone tool in this case. it takes 50% of the original backround and 50% of whatever you alt click on, and averages them together.

May we see the original artist's edit? :-)

Reb.....unfortunately my imaging software doesn't have a bandage healing tool...just a cloning tool and a blending tool. In my case, the blending tool might have worked better. I see what you're saying though. As for my edit........not much different from yours. If I were to post it, we'd really have 'em confused. ;)
