I think this picture would have looked nicer if there was a nice blue sky and it was sunny out close to sunset so you get some warm colours. It looks kind of dreary as it is. Maybe thats what you were going for. I have never done a panorama so I can't say anything about the stitch job.

I share Slacker's sentiments about the color. But I do like how you used the wide-angle distortion to simulate the curve of the earth.
What kind of camera did you use for this?

Great stitch job readingr...But as slacker commented,,a little more saturation and guts would have helped here..

    Re: First stich

Thanks all for the comments - It was a really dull morning and the windows of the tower are tinted blue which didn't help. Couldn't get the colours any better once stitched and even though all three were taken within 2 minutes the brightness changed for each shot which made it harder to get decent colours.

However saying that I was quite pleased with the results for my first attempt but there are areas that I learnt to watch for, like boats which kept moving which made it even harder to get a decent join. Waether conditions changing, and to allow for enough overlap 30-50% at least

MC - I never noticed the distortion until you just pointed it out. I think its probably because the view is angled down and from 3 different locations about 3 metres apart.

The shots were taken on a Canon Powershot Pro 1 set to manual and captured in RAW and then stiched using the Canon provided software that came with the camera. Then tidied up using PSE 2 and PSP X

I'm going to have to go back with a tripod and do this properly and get the night shots as well.

As mentioned before, the stitch looks great, and this is probably better in a larger size. You got the technique, now go get a winner.

    Re: First stich

I'd recommend using a focal length close to that of a normal lens and take more shots rather than use a wide angle lens setting.

Another thing that makes stitching panoramas together easier is overlapping each shot by about 1/3 of the next, allowing the stitching zone to match up further from the edges of the lens especially if you get any fall off toward the corners of the frame.

Water can be especially hard to stitch because of the wave patterns.

It's hard to judge from a shot that's only 500 pixels wide but the picture seems dark and color shifted toward cyan and green and blue.

I'll bet in a larger presentation, that the detail in the harbor and its town make it a fascinating shot.
