First shots 20D

Critique, well yea maybe....

So ditched the p&s and moved up to a 20D. I know I can grow into more of what this unit can do...but here are a couple of starters....since I don' t have any fast cars to shoot yet this year...

Both of these were shot full auto with the 28-135 IS USM lens at f5.6. I was playing a bit with close up stuff today. They are both resized in Elements down from their full L size glory....

Man is this gonna be fun....

They could both do with adjustments to levels, if you open them in Photoshop and look at the histogram you will see they are both slightly under exposed by about 1 stop.

Then do some Unsharpen masking to botht he images and you will see much better renditions of your photos.

GM...even without the adjustments Peter suggested, they are good. The red leaf will look even better if you follow his advice.

Thanks Peter....I am playing a bit with that unsharp and it certainly does seem to bring out more detail.

I also adjusted the contrast & brightness a bit...adding to the golden tones of the cat's fur and it makes the whites a bit more so.

More fun to come....

it's probably my eyes (getting old) but I like the light in both pics. in the first, the colors are great, textures too, though I like the way you've cut less. in the second, the expression of the cat, combined with the way you've centered him/her is just perfect. I too am starting out with my new eos 20d ... it's taking me time to get used to it! like what you're doing with yours!

The plant leaf was funny - I was outside shooting around and figured hey why not. I am amazed at the saturation the 20D shows...amazing. That one could probably have been composed a tad better...but I love the color in it.

With Simba the cat....she is very photogenic for sure. This is actually her lying with this fleece white blanket on my wife's lap in a chair. The cat was pretty much zonked out....so perfect time to snap one of her. This is my fave so far.

I did change a few things in Elements -- which added a bit to it, whiter whites and you see her gold colors a bit better...but I really like the original too (which is what I posted here). I also dropped it into b&w via Elements after the fact just for grins....man that looks nice too.
