    First post for me.

As a fire fighter, I wanted to capture what it is like when you have to fight and work in the cold. I fought this fire today, we were the second in on this one and got to see alot of action. We just about froze to death.

Did I get the comp. right?

    Color too bright or dark?

    Interesting subject?

Did you look just once or twice?

    Re: First post for me.

Congratulations on your first post !
As a retired rural VFD'r, I can appreciate what your up against on sub-zero calls !
Comp and colour look OK to me, but the subject appears to be frozen to the back of the truck.
You can clearly see the ice on his bunker gear and face shield, so you know it's cold !
I did look twice to try and figure out just what he was doing,
. . . maybe he has just realized his wet gloves have frozen to the grab rail ?

Damn, whaddya do now ?

Welcome to the forums as well. Yes it does seem cold. Looks like you caught him in action. I like where you place him in the picture, good colors too. Nice composition. I can't wait to see more. Nicely done, Tyson

    Re: First post for me.

Tyson - Welcome. My first reaction is that the photo is good. You seemed to have caught him in the act of everyday life, without posing. There is a little clutter around him - the tree, roof, and antennea - that I wish wasn't there, but I think it's more important to capture the moment than to try to get everything perfect and miss it (that's what I usually do ). The only thing that bothers me here is that the red on the right side is somewhat dominant in the photo and takes away from him to a degree ... but the overall composition is good. I might also have added a little more space about the light. Nitpicks for next time.

    Re: First post for me.

    Welcome aboard!

the only thing i would add is this:

A wee bit more space for the red light, and at the left the handle, would have let the picture breathe a little more, but just enough so as not to change the overall comp of the image and especially the placement of the fire fighter... The antenna on the building is somewhat annoying but i am not so sure that a different angle would have been better...

    Nice shot!

    Re: First post for me.

Thank you for the C&C, after being half froze to death and wore out I hoped I would Get a few good shots. As for the lighting I tried to use what I had at the time, the bright light in his face made me wonder if the shot was ruined. I have one more I would like to post in a seperate Thred.

    Again Thank You.
