    First Post with the 40D

I love winter, the orchids bloom. Here is one of two plants blooming at the moment.

That's pretty! Seems somewhat soft but I think soft is good for this one.

    Frog/motlive:

Thank for the comments. I have not made any programable settings yet, so at a neutral sharpness it might seem soft. The background is a window screen about 4 feet behind the plant with a row of hedges behind that.

    Thanks again.

A great frame filler CF. I like the screen background. A great start with the new camera.

Congrats on your new camera. I like the framing and love the texture of the screen in the bg. Only the flower itself could benefit from some more evenly spread out lighting.
Write a review of your 40D when you have the chance.
Looking forward to more images from you

Re: First Post with the 40D

The exposure is pretty much right on. It's a little too soft in the closest leaf though, but some may prefer that. What disturbs me a little though is the way the stem comes close to leaving the frame but then juts back in. I tend to want it to exit at that pt. The other issue is that the background isn't all that aesthetic (looks like screen - not incredibly elegant). Anyway, Congrats on the Xmas gift. I have a Nikon system too.

    Grump, Gary, GB:

Thanks all for your comments. I appreciate you dropping a few quick thoughts. I will defintely write a review once I get a few shots under my belt. I went to the San Diego Zoo today just to get out and begin getting used to the new setup. So far so good but this is light years beyond the XTi and will take some time. What fun, huh?

    Thanks again.
