    First Post

I bought a new camera and signed up for a class (that got canceled, so I bought a new lens) with the idea of shooting something more than keepsake snapshots. Since the class got canceled, I'd appreciate critique and comments.

First off welcome to PR. For your picture, one thing to always try and watch out for is the background behind your subject. The statue is distracting. Also try a lower f/stop and try to blur the background. Congrats on the lens by the way.....

    Re: First Post

Is the dog or the statue the subject or the relationship between the two?
That building and fence are just poor backgrounds but what do you do when that's what's there.
If it gets blurred more then so will the statue so I'm not sure what you can do if you want the dog and the statue together, unless the statue is light plastic and moves easy.
    Keep Shooting!

Congratulations on your first PR post Felony, and good luck with your new lens and camera !
As Greg and Frog has stated, all the background clutter really detracts from the subject.
The idea behind the shot is great, but it requires different execution.

Thanks for the comments. I took the shot at my future mother-inlaw's. I don't think I'd be making a good impression if I took down her fence and leveled her neighbors garage on the off chance my dog decides to sit in front of her statue again. At least I have a better idea of what I'm looking for and a better than average picture for the fiance's scrapbook.

    Felony,

    Welcome to the forum.

With this photo you may have got a better picture if you'd moved more to the left to separate the dog from statue so that their not inline.

As others have already stated the background doesn't do it justice and using DOF on the camera may blur the building but not the fence. Perhaps a bit of PP to blur it may help.

Putting the techie stuff to one side I think this is great and I keep wondering how the humour would be improved even more had doggie not looked around.
I like your style. My kind of stuff.
