Were you using Macro mode? The photos don't look sharp to me. I'm wondering if the camera was actually close enough to the subjects that macro mode should have been used. Some digicams don't focus well if not at all when the camera is too close for other modes.

Overall, the photos could use some improvement in composition, IMHO. Color-wise, I prefer the third one.

Yes, the focus doesn't seem to be on. Might have been too close or if shutter was slow, you'll need to use a tripod.

Depending on your camera, my sd550 had a 3" min focus distance in macro mode. The problem with macros and these cameras is you don't get to choose your focus point. Sometimes you just have to keep trying until it chooses the right one.

The pictures look out of focus to me.

Besides for the out of focus, what do you think of the pictures?

    Hi Chili:

I think the third one works the best in terms of color, and the first one for composition. The second one... Hmm I think it looks more like a "texture" shot than anything else. Instead of some needles on a cactus, maybe you can focus on the whole cactus by zooming out, or focus on one particular set of needles?
