First Baby Shoot

heres a shot from a little session for my girlfriends aunt.
he was born pre mature, and hes only 7 pounds and he is almost 4 months old. but hes healthy and getting bigger. i did this in black and white with window light.
he may be a little dark but help me out so i know for next time.

She is cute, tell the moms grants! I would have shot it with the baby more on her side or maybe on her belly. She looks kinda unhappy or maybe even bothered by being in that pose.

Just a thought.

My personal favorite shoots to do are newborns. This is not a bad pic but the color is very drab and does not give a "warm baby feeling" when you look at it. I love using window light but sometimes you have to bump it up in post to make it work just right. The one thing I noticed was his foot is "cut off" by the shadows. I did that alot and have learned that you have to try and watch EVERY SINGLE thing with them because they always seem to move just right to mess it up.

Would it be okay for me to play with this picture and then show you what I did?

Oh, I just saw that you shot this in BW - okay, well that explains alot but he is still a bit dark. I did play with his picture but won't post anything unless you say it is okay.

I don't get why you shot in b/w and then added color? Is this a technique I don't know about?
I like Chow's edit better.

LOL frog, i shot it in B&W raw, and then when it was imported from the camera to lightroom it was in color, i dont know whats going on with it lol im still a NEWB

That is strange. Hopefully, someone can explain that.

yeah! i shoot in raw, and set to black and white.

then while uploading my photos into my lightroom they are color.

I think that for B/W pictures, at least digitally, it is better to do that in post then in camera. I think you have better control that way.

Decent shot but I would decrease the negative space.

I think Chow's edit is a big, big improvement. It just needed some 'pop.'
