    Hi Everyone!

Well I am a newbie! I just started taking photographs last June. Yup.......I learned from being around and invovled in fashion shoots and of course by reading many books.I would like your thoughts on some images I took recently!

    Welcome aboard,

As far as advertisement and fashion go, getting up close and personal with a wee bit of distortion is very interesting...your lighting is pretty good too, as well as the make-up....

The problem i have however, is i dont know what you are showing!! Is it the jewelry, or the make-up, or is it simply a portrait of a fashion model which is why you took it this way....

    That's my opinion anyway!

Stick around...looking forward to your other posts!

I'm not a photographer of people so take this with a grain of salt.

Those beautiful eyes grab you when you first see the shot. I thought at first that the bracelet was a distraction but after scrolling to crop it out I find that it provide a good balance in the shot for the strong subject. I think it's good that it isn't completely in the frame.

This is very unusual but I think it is incredibly attractive.
Her facial expression and shape, and the positioning of her hand are totally compatible if that makes any sense. I like seeing the bracelet but I would prefer to see it a little closer to her hand and not being stuck at the very bottom.
What a pity about the slight burnout on the arm.
    A good one.

    Re: First attempts

    NicS -

    Welcome!

I really like the shot overall. It has a lot of powerful aspects - eyes, lipstick, and complexion all came out nicely, and the sharpness of the photo - esp the eyes - is quite good. The color is ideal. There is a little warm spot on the arm: remember that with flash photography, esp when you are close to your subject, that differences in distance between objects will receive different amts of light. It's negligible for subjects farther away with objects that only differ in distance by small amts, but when you're this close ... hot-spots can and often will happen. The answer might be to to move your camera and flash back and use a zoom, if you flash can output the additional light needed for that. Also, there does seem to be some distortion of her head ... what focal length did you shoot it at? You may have shot it at wide angle. Anyway, nice job overall.

Nic,,,,,I like this image...Nice skin tones and exposure..Just a few gripes,,,I would have cropped above your subjects bracelet, moved her hand just a fraction to the back of her head so you can see all of her eyebrow and leave a tad more room for her hand at the left hand side of the frame..

Yes, I realize that I should have had her hand moved a little further back....Well I now have gained some great tips from all of you and hopefully the next close up will be much better!

    Re: First attempts

I like this portrait alot. The model has a very interesting face. The lighting and exposure look good as well as the skin tone as Jurgen stated. This was taken with a wide angle lens? The only issue i have with this shot is that her hand looks too large and it probably looks this way due to it being closest to the camera and, well, if it was a wide angle lens it will exagerate things close to it.
    Nice work.
