    Father and Daughter

Took this one at a tennis tournament. I love b/w, but never seem to get the same results as the more experienced photogs on this forum. I would appreciate any suggestions, especially in regards to b/w.

    Re: Father and Daughter

You have captured a nice moment with father and daughter. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that the sky is so bright, while their faces are in shadow. You still have detail there, but I'd like to see a little more light, especially on the girl.

A little more of the father in the shot too.. He's there, but I think I'd rather see more of him or maybe none at all. Great shot of the girl.. The hat makes for a perfect lazy spring or summer afternoon feeling.

#1 That is tough light there. Did you use fill flash?

#2 The dark area on the right of the frame doesn't add anything to the image, crop it out. You could also crop from the top of the frame to just miss her hat.

#3 I too would like to see just a tad more of the fathers face but I can live with the image the way it is if you do the crop.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Father and Daughter

I think the only thing that should be done with this image is to bring out the sky; the damper, with its reflection in the glass, on the rear window of the car/truck is a really great detail that forces your eye to move. If there were any more of the fathers face in the image, it would take away from the intimacy of it, as well as the moment in time that was captured; it gives your brain something to think about, a little more mysterious. Does this make sense?

    Re: Father and Daughter

Sorry but I don't think I am seeing what everyone else is. To me it appears as just a snapshot. The fathers face is not showing much, which would be okay to me if you had more of him in the pic(shoulders, etc), the little girls face is pretty dark and to me there is not much connection between either the girl or dad to each other. The tennis ball is also cut off in the pic which takes away any note of where they might be at. The back of the vehicle is a pretty big distraction and there is nothing else in the background that helps pull the image together.

Tried the crop suggestion of MB1. The fill flash would have helped.

ChowChi-Ching, I understand where you are coming from. One of the things I like most about this forum is seeing how different views can be on the same picture.

    All the feedback is appreciated.

I like the way the father's head balances the visual weight of the daughter so that the picture looks like it would hang straight.
