    falls dawn

    This was worth waking up at 4am for, I'm sure I can get more out of the RAW file once I buy a new monitor calibrator tool.
    Yes, it's a little cropped from the FB version.

    And yes, this was with the XZ-1, hand held at 1/5, using a wired remote release (Hahnel HRO280).

    Nice composition with the horizon above the middle and the curvature of the falls in the bottom right. The mist and fog-ish conditions add to the overall feeling in the image and the colors are very pleasing to look at. The focus is good and image did not seem to suffer much from handholding at 1/5 (good job on that). I am not sure what the histogram would look like on this, but the scene may suffer from a slight lack of whites and contrast ...and perhaps just a little under exposed as well. Tweaking these setting in the RAW file or with an editor may help.

    Nice view. Sunrise was a great time to shoot the falls from your location! beautiful hazy reds. it's very tough to capture the majesty of the falls and i think you've done well here.

    let me guess, sheraton fallsview, 27th floor?

    i stayed there but much lower floor

    Nice catch Paul. Amazing how sharp it is for a hand held shot.

    @Liban Embassy Suites, 39th floor.
    Angie got a special deal (doesn't she always?).

    @Armando about three hours' worth from dawn until breakfast.
    And then one at breakfast as well.

    Re: falls dawn

    Here's one of the repairs I was forced to do .. I always carry some tape in the camera bag.
    One of the clips on the insect screen was broken, and after the first fly made its way in I decided it needed to be sealed.
    The flies were a constant hazard, in wide angle shots there was always a chance that one would get in the way and I was moving the cameras around a bit in the 4 hours from dawn to breakfast.

    A beautiful catch here Paul. Really amazing that you have it this sharp at 1/5 regardless of IS.
