Hi adina,,,heaps of potential here...Her lashes are tack sharp which draws my eyes...On my monitor is does look a tad flat without any true blacks or whites..Maybe a tighter crop would have been better here say just above her arm pit..

Totally wrong angle. It makes her look like she has a square face on an angle. The eyes always need to be the important part of a portrait or animal shot.
I would have to agree with Jurgen on this photo...the tones are flat, her face blends in too much with the rest of her body. The crop he suggested is right on, IMHO.
I like the subject and I think it is a great departure from a normal portrait.
Cheers,
I'm always mentally photographing everything as practice.

:mad2: Or perhaps you're missing the point?
The angle is fine. As mentioned before, the tones need some work, perhaps a sepia-tone treatment would work well with this.
Nice work! Great use of shallow DOF!

I fail to see the contradiction. Perhaps you can reveal that to us all in your next post.
As for the portrait, I don't know how much it would benefit from a crop. I do think, however, that kicking up the contrast would greatly improve it. What the hell though, right? Everyone else already said that. Cute kid. There, I said something new.
I like the angle adina...Sure it is different even a bit off beat and doesn't "conform" to compostion rules but hey, rules are meant to be broken..
Give me another one that has more punch with the lower quarter or so cropped and you have a winner here..
Nice work adina..

While I do agree that the eyes are important in portraits, and I do have those shots, I also believe, especially in children, that there is so much about them physically that is changing, and it's important to capture that as well, not always with the eyes as the focus. Whether or not this particular shot works for you, or more importantly, the parents, if I decide to show it, I alway always have images that don't focus on the eyes, along with the ones that do.
