    Extreme Close Up

Well, it's as close as I wanted to get anyway lol. Didn't want to cut that beautiful chin off.

This is my beautiful daughter, Becky. Modelling her new glasses for me.

    Info:
    Canon EOS 350D
    50mm 1.8 MKII lens
    Manual Mode
    ISO 100
    F/5.6
    SS 1/60
    Bounced Flash

Your thoughts, as always, are much appreciated.

    Alison,

Man you are good! This is a really fine photograph. I can't decide if backing off a fraction of an inch would be better, or not. Becky looks like a china doll in a the window of a toy store. The exposier looks perfect, her make-up is perfect, your color exposier is perfect- really nice. Do you have one just like this but with the slightest hint of a smile? Just a turn of the corners of the mouth.... would make for an entirely different look.

Very nice job. You work very hard at photography and is shows.

    p.s. nice glasses too!

    Hello Alison,

I recently read your explanation about the Kodak filter you are using for your portraits and found it to be most interesting.

I like your portrait both in terms of composition and overall rendition but I can't help wondering if the post-processing is too much. Simply put, I like what I see and it's quite obvious that you put care in the crafting of your photographs but the eyes seems a bit oversharpened on my monitor, some pixelisation is showing up. Also, the skin seems overly soft to me (but this may be a matter of personal preferences).

    regards

    Seb

    Re: Extreme Close Up

    Thank you so much CF.

I wanted to have her eyes nice and wide which is why she isn't smiling and to be honest I didn't think to get one of her smiling.
It's always the way with me though, always experimenting and not expecting to get a keeper. This was yet another quick shot before we went out of the door last night to pick my other daughter up from work at around 10pm.

    Thank you Seb.
I thought it looked kinda like something from a magazine cover. But then, I am a fan of soft focus images.
    What monitor do you have?
My hubby has a 19 inch monitor which is what I worked on. I did sharpen the eyes a little and I can't see any pixelation at all on my hubby's monitor.

    Alison,

You do have a beautiful daughter and the glasses are lovely to.

The composition with the pout and lighting is terrific and the colouring is great looks like porcelain as CF said.

I agree with Seb on the eyes because the iris looks strange because of the over sharpening. The rest of the face in contrast looks to soft but its the eyes that need fixing.

A beautiful photo like it loads.

    What article on Kodak filters?

I think what you are seeing in the Iris' is the "dodge tool" work I did on them.

    Is this one any better?

    Alison,

I didn't see the oversharpening on the first image but now that you have softened things a bit I do think the second effort is the best. Can't add any more to it than what has been said. Just a really nice photo.

I am interested in the filter article also. Where can I find it?
