    Exploring Ants

    What do you think ?

Maybe crop it vertical eliminating the buds on the left ?

I kind of like the whole thing

I enjoy the colors in this picture. your subject, the ants, is in good focus. I do feel like it is missing something. Maybe too much negative space? Do you want to share your vertical crop?

Composition is fine as is, image is dark and could be brighter, colors a little flat needs more contrast. I like it overall.

    Re: Exploring Ants

Lets see, #1 was done with Capture nx2, color is closer to reality

Try 2 ... LR 4.1, way faster to do it than with CNX2, but I find my results always a bit more crude

    Anyway, changes are:
    +1 ev, contrast +20, blacks -45, +19 vibrance
now need to control the reds: saturation red -34 orange -6 , -33 red luminance

I like the edit. I think that front purple area on the flour looks super bright and calls my attention. but... could just be me. The picture did improve a bit, though.

I like the edit too. I think the vertical crop is still worth investigating but this edit stands up very well. Nice shot!

Your edit does improve the color. Cropping off the left blooms would leave their stems going no where. Might or might not work.

Maybe it should be called "Ants Exploring." Great shot.

I like the first one you posted. The colour palette is incredible. So great. The ants make the shot. The DOF is very good too. Everything works really well for me. But I especially love the colours though. Amazing.

I cropped it to a vertical on my screen and I'm not sure I like it cropped. I think the way it is in the 1st shot is just pefect.

    Re: Exploring Ants

It's a rather nice shot, but what I would do is crop the three flowers on the left out and burn down that one middle flower. It's pretty bright and catchs my eye more then the bloom with the ants on it. You have yourself a nice shot here though.

I like the first one with the darker BG. Amazingly sharp. Nice shot.
