The Golden Rule, nice.

This one isn't quite as appealing as the others. I think that it's because it's just not as simple, texture wise, there's a lot going on, and not as many chunks of smooth flat tone within the image as the others as well.

You should try putting all three of them next to each other on the same page, this one may stand out as the busiest, not too profoundly, but noticeable.

I do like the image, but as a set, the above is how I feel.

Once again this is beautifully exposed and coloured. The softness of the wood against the abrasive rust of the metal is a highlight as is the exceptional detail in the wood especially at the top. The black closing line stands out very well.
The set of three do work so well but I do feel exhibit b deserves a stage all of its own
Looking closely at the three together I got the impression that you gave special attention to the wood (making it look smoother and softer?) on this portion, whereas in the other two the woods looks a lot rougher throughout, including the portion above. Hope this makes sense. Perhaps I'm wrong on this.

I love the tones and the textures in this composition - excellent work as usual.

Just two things to check - on the rusty latch in the painted area at the bottom right near the edge there seems to be a spot of what looks like sensor dust at this resolution. It could be just a defect in the paint though.

And at the bottom of the photo there is a half moon area with defects in the wood. It may look better if the defects are cropped out, just a couple of mm off the bottom.

John . . .good point about the busy feeling with all the niks and imperfections in the wood. I think while usually those elements make for interesting viewing I think it takes away from the main event. . .lock and bolt. I will have a go at eliminating some of the distracting imperfections and see what i feel. I think I will agree. . .

Tom . . .thanks for your comments on this and it's relation to the others. I agree about exhibit b. As for your point about the smoothness of the wood in this one compared to the others I can only say that on this image the focus was actually on the very front portion of the metal locks and at the very close range and zoom that i was shooting at, the dof was not as great and focus on the wood right behind the locks might have become a bit softer than the others. Fstop was about f11 for all of them.

Roger . . .I appreciate your points and comments. I think the area you pointed out about being a dust spot is in this case a stain on the metal. Although at this size it does look like a dust spot. I have included a image showing this particuliar area. Your comment about the defect in the wood sort of goes along with John point and i will certainly have a go at ridding some of these "unsightly" damage to the wood

I looked long an hard at this before responding and I believe it is only the bottom edge that makes it look busy.See what you think. I think the rest of the damage makes it look real and in keeping with the lock. So don't remove too many.
