Nice capture which such a rowdy animal! The light on its nose/left side of the face is a tad distracting, but understandable with the circumstances. Nice shot and good pose,

Welcome to the forum uvasid. I'm going to agree with Jared and Todd on this. I would like to see more of the dog, and the light is a bit blown out on the nose, but not bad. I think you nailed the DOF on this shot. Nice work.

Re: Evening Light and My Dog

Thanks for all the quick replies and great feedback! I wanted to get the bottom half of him as well, but he was sitting right next to our concrete patio, so I positioned the shot to the concrete out of the bottom half of the picture. I guess you win some and lose some when you can't make your subject pose!
As for the light, investing in some filters would be a good idea since I like to do a lot of outdoor shots. Any suggestions on some mid-range filters at 58mm size?

A good circular polorizer is very usefull tool for outdoor photography. If you don't have one, get one. I use one quite regularly. Another filter to consider is a graduated Neutral Density filter. They come in very handy when shooting outside with a bright sky/background, and you want to keep the foreground properly exposed. If your shooting digital, you can create a lot of the same affects that filters will do, with the exception of the polorizer.

One thing you should consider is filter size. Get filters to fit your largest lens, and then use adapter rings to step down to your smaller lenses, so you don't have to by multiple filters to cover multiple lenses. Also, like everything else photo related, get the best that you can afford.
