    Engine 2929

    Down at the train yards...
Shots 2 & 3 are on the train.
Do any of these have appeal?

    Hi, PlantedTao!

I like all three of the shots, though 2 and 3 are more appealing to me than the shot of the train itself. 2 & 3 have a very desolate, isolated feel to them. I like their sharp lines and shadows. Maybe I would like the one of the train more if the lighting was different.

    Nice work!

    Twins-
Thanks for your compliments. I agree that the shot of the train needs different lightning or something...right now it is kinda blah and has no appeal to me. But I decided to post to see if anyone liked it and what could be improved.
Shots 2&3 are from an empty box car. So it was very desolate being alone in there and capturing the pictures. This was not a feeling I was trying to capture, but I'm glad it comes across as that. The lines and shadows are what made me take the picture.
    Cheers.

#1 doesn’t do much for me either. Maybe it's the crop.

#2-3, however, I like. Scarred for life, very emotive. Lonely...reminds me of a documentary about kids living on the rails. Very sad. Technically appealing to me are the angles and lines. And the views without. Can't explain it really, but you sort of feel connected yet not connected.

Very well done. Thanks for sharing these.

I'm not sure of your intent with #1. That makes it difficult to say what is wrong/right about it. But it sounds like you knew that already . With #2 and #3, however, I wish there was more light. For me at least, more light would create a stronger contrast of shapes and help me see what I am not seeing in the picture. A good idea, but more exposure.

Number 3 is my favorite of this set of photos, but to be honest, none of them do much for me. The lighting in the first photo seems pretty harsh. Looks like it was taken at mid-day with a very bright sun. I find myself shooting in this type of light a lot, and I'm very rarely satisfied with my results. 2 & 3 are just too dark for my tastes, but the mood you captured is very good. Number 2 seems to have a lot of negative space at the top and on the right side that I find distracting. Maybe a tighter crop would help out. Number three is my favorite. I love the lines and shadows, but those alone aren't enuf to keep my attention. Just my 2 cents.
