    Re: elegance

I quite like this one. I liked your other one too, but this one more, not least because of the daring crop.

I think though that these images really need to be seen blown up - more than most pictures, the small image size on a monitor doesn't do them any kind of justice. I imagine though that if you are doing this as a project, that large prints is the idea?

    Cheers

Mike's right about the crop. The left leg extended toward the upper left corner gives this great symetry. I'll bet this will look great printed up.

    Re: elegance

This is reminiscent to me of a photographer in my area. His name is David Myers (here's a link to his web site: http://www.davidmyersimages.com ) He's done some wonderful work using the nude female form in black and white and under a variety of lighting conditions. Anyway, I have always admired work of this nature. Your lighting is well balanced and interesting. The pose is alluring but not too revealing. This is a classic study in fine art and you have approached it with dignity and authority. Well done!

    Re: elegance

Mike: yes, although I am a bit worried about print quality... I shot these on my 1d, which as you may know is 4.2mp...so I just hope the RIP program the lab used works well enough to preserve the quality of the shot.

John: yeah, I can't wait to see the images, they should be here tomorrow. I've been tracking the package from UPS.com. And I never actually noticed how the leg tends to point to the corner, and now that I do I like the pose a whole lot more. I was actually disappointed at first that the leg wasnt more vertical when compared to the framing.

CL: Thanks for the link, I bookmarked it. This kind of photography intriques me as well, and I had been wanting to get into it for a while. So when we received our final assignments for using models I was excited. I enjoy the ability to turn a body into pure form and elegance by use of light, and I thank you for your comments.

I may be posting one more at some point, but we'll see.

    Re: elegance

I do! However, I would not say that it is because the feet are visible. This is a fine shot and the "dead" space above lends some intrigue and class. The pose is very good, and so is the lighting. Your exposure looks just right as well. Although I like this more than the previous shot of this series, I would not say that it is better than the other.
Great Job on a strong series.

    Re: elegance

Completely like the crop. Excellent exposure too. Tech aside

I really like how sexy this photo is without even the slightest need to be crass. It goes to show you just how important less, can be more.

CL, does this photographer display down in the Torpedo Factory? I recall seeing some work over there that did indeed look similiar.

The lighting is excellant here. I wonder how it would look in color though, perhaps with a colored light?

It's quite possible GB. I know he has had several pieces from his human form series displayed at Glen Echo's PhotoWorks. There are several photographers who seem to float between the Torpedo Factory and PhotoWorks so you may very well be right.

Thks, but looks like I was wrong after all. The Torpedo Factory is online (torpedofactory.org) and the photographer that I mentioned is apparently James Steele.. Check out his legs pic at http://torpedofactory.org/media/photography.htm.

I know him, he's a really nice guy and does fabulous D.C. after dark images. He also lectures and teaches regularly at PhotoWorks. Someday I'm going to convince him to let me tag along when he goes out to work at 2 or 3 in the morning. . .

Sorry to usurp your thread Brent! More kudos to you, I still love it. Glad Gary got your image up this week! Looks like you get 2 weeks of sticky, lucky you!

Oops! Now I'm thinking of the wrong guy ~ D.C. night shots are Craig Sterling [also of the Torpedo Factory]. . . Steele, Sterling no wonder I get confused!
