    Re: East Race Waterway

    Hi Mark,

I love nocturnes. This one, like your Pier Park image, is interesting but I think could benefit from a crop. (I seem to making a lot of cropping suggestions tonight, Sorry )
The waterway is very interesting but I feel like there are distractions from the lighting and buildings. If you crop the top third say to just above the bridge in the distance and including the two lights furthest to the end that this becomes more interesting visually. With all of that sky to look at my eyes feel strange being drawn to the center, I think a crop would correct that. Of course that's only my opinion.

Wow nice colors and lighting. I dont care for the sky much. Mabye you could try burning it some or fill it in with something. But that water way looks really awesome.

CL., I see what you are saying, I played with different crops including what you suggest and it does strengthen the image, but then I feel as if I want the buldings included. I'll shoot with a longer lens sometime and crop in camera. No need to appologize, Thanks for posting.

Themage, The crazy colors are from all of the different light sources. I agree the sky needs help.
    Thanks for posting,

    Mark,

I know what everyone is saying about the crop but I quite like this as is. Excellent colours.

Brings back fond memories of whitewater kayaking.

Night photography always brings mysterious colors to a capture and this is no exception Love the way you captured the light in the flowing water. Bet you have a daytime trip planned with Kayakers in mind, well done.

I was thinking crop as well, but only to the top of the building. It's the brightest, closest lights that drag my eye. When I scroll to exclude those, everything falls in place for me. But that's just me.

    Re: East Race Waterway

Thanks Roger, I dont think the lights would be so distracting in a larger print. I did a white water raft trip once. I was out of the raft twice. The second time with the help of a "FRIEND"? It shouldn't be a fond memory, but it is

Knight, Thanks for the comments. I would like to get a several second exposure of a kayak holding position. as you can see I can get very close to the action.

D, thanks for posting, I do see what you mean
    Thanks to all again,

    Mark,
First thing I did after looking at this image is I clicke on to your profile to see what Camera you got , Couldn't figure it out though.

I'm in the market for a (not so expensive) DSLR myself and I thought wow! love the clarity of the image. Though, I think the photographer has more to do with it than the gear, I was still curious.

As far as critiquing goes. I think it's well exposed and very neatly packaged. I think it's a great shot overall. It might lack a subject or an overwhelming focus but that doesn't take away anything from this, as the clarity of it and the fact the composition and exposures have been done perfectly compensate for that.
