    Early Morning Train, Reshoot

It always bothered me that I missed the engine. So I went back. What do you think of the reshoot?

This is really good Greg especially as the train is in the perfect position with some nice space in front of it. The early morning vibe comes over really well too. It would be great if you could find a little bit of detail in the bottom right corner; I'm sure it's there.

    Good, train's nicely placed.
I wonder about cropping from the right, or lightening up that dark bottom corner.

The whole image has low contrast because of that mist.
I'd like there to be less mist, lower down on the water, so the train is sharper.
But it's a great atmospheric shot, and of the conditions you had there, you've got it right.

Tom, Paul. I tried lightening it in Lightroom. I think you were right.

Greg, this composition's a winner in every way. Should look good on the wall.

    Re: Early Morning Train, Reshoot

Greg, I remember the first photo of this scene and while you had lots of positive comments I never felt too good about it but did not know why. . .and so did not comment on it.
This one I think is much stronger. In the first one, the mist was very dense in the middle leaving the upper and lower portions of the image clear. There was no mood because of that as there is in this one. In this version, not only do you have the mood and feel of the misty morning but the lighting is much better as well giving us a beautiful foliage on the right and color to add as well. Also, the capture of the engine as the train pulls over the trestle is another big plus.
    great reshoot!
btw, I prefer your original picture hare as opposed to the lightened version.
    Great work, Greg.

Great improvement over the last one. You nailed it here....so I think...I thought you nailed the last one too.

Well done, the edit worked wonders too.

John and Mr. Yuck, Thanks. Gary I agree the lighting and overall mood works better here. The mist was almost too thick when I first arrived and this is actually the second train that went by. I should have taken my fishing pole. LOL. It took three trips to get this one.

Great shot Greg. The edited version gets my vote. Great timing too. Train is in a perfect spot and the mist/fog just pulls it all together. Well done

    Re: Early Morning Train, Reshoot

Greg I think you have overdone it a little bit in the edit. My suggestion was to open up the detail in the bottom black corner only, a little bit. The leaves elsewhere were fine. Still a great shot.

    Greg,

I too think this is a great shot. I like the composition and it conveys a great mood. I'm probably more partial to the first one, but both are beautiful.
