i agree with anew ... that is fantastic. i'm a touch dissapointed with the slight over exposure on the right side of the photo, but even that is growing on me.

i want to know how you managed to get a shot in hong kong with only one single person in it.

    contrast is amazing.

Hi anew, Thanks for the kind words.

Hi dmizer, Thanks for pointing out the exposure. I guess shooting at a different time would help. The shot was taken today and most people here are still on holiday; I guess that's why the street was so empty. In fact, I had to wait for the passer-by.

I love the title of this, Yoyo. I also really like the texture of the taller, darker buildings and the position of the passerby...great photo.

i was going to suggest a different time of day at first too, but i really like how the shorter apartment(?) buildings are almost washed out. it's such a stark contrast to the taller scaffold enshrouded buildings looming in the background.

something tells me that the contrast wouldn't be quite right at another time of the day.

i like the action you captured in your subject there too. it's the only movement in the picture, and i like that.

I aslo think it's great Yoyo. Love the gap in between the wierd buildings in the back ground, I think it gives it the breathing room it needs. Very nice!

It's a strange one Yoyo with those wierd monstrous high rises ready to gobble up the little blocks below. Strange that there is no-one around except the one person who I believe to be too centrallly placed. Had you caught her on the pedestrian crossing on the right it would have looked much better. Thats my only crib, otherwise I like it very much.

julsoph, Thanks for the kind words. I am glad that you mentioned the title.

dmizer, Thanks for the second message and further explaining your thoughts.

LeeIs, Yes, the short old building and the much taller unfinished building caught my attention first.

Overbeyond, Yes, I had been waiting for a passerby from the right. I had forgotton that the mirror lockup was activated; thus I had to press the dial two times. Thats why the girl is in the centre of the shot.

It is a good image, yes. I think I could recognize it as yours without reading the name

The contrast between the buildings is excellent.
The dark buildings looming in the background, overshadowing the block in front.
But the light on that building makes it really stand out against the shadowed high-rize.

Waiting for that girl made this shot special, catching her further to the right against the clear background of the road would have made it better.
It would be an interseting balance to have her at the same offset from the right as the gap between the background buildings is from the left.

I think about this image and try to work out what I'd have done differently.
Then why it wouldn't be a s good as what you've done !

For example, I'd have tried to eliminate the lamp in the foreground, probably moving to the right.
But I would have lost the alignment of the slice of light in the background with the curve of the building in the foreground.
I would also have lost the feeling of that lamp like an eye looking down that slice of light onto the building and the girl.

The more i look, the more there is to see ,,, I learn a lot from you.

I like the comp here, Yoyo. Also, the contrasts bewteen the building in the fr a bg are quite catching. The person brings a relation to size. Good work

Hi PAul, Thanks a lot for the detailed analysis of the shot and I am very glad that you like it. You are right about the position of the lady; it would be much better if she were on the right. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the lampost which I did not think about.

Hi Gary, Thanks for your kind words as always.

Looks like it's all been covered. I like how the buildigs look so tall, the woman giving perspective, The break between buildings lining up with the corner of the shorter one.
    You nailed this one,
    Mark.
BTW, the womans stride reminds me of the shot of Jackie O. and the rest of the comp reminds me of an early Steiglitz in NY.
