you could try it with the background being more pronounced...it could give another dimention in your picture....just a suggestion.

The picture without the duck in the would make it a straight foward shot. The composition and DOF is wonderful. You can even see water drops on the bottom of the duck. This photo has very nice detail.

Your timing in getting the duck in the background should be acknowledged. Good job.

Do you have a photo of the duck in the background not taking a dip?

I see the duck in the background either adding humor to the shot or being a distraction. Hard for me to to tell.

The timing on this shot was completely accidental, thats why I liked it so much, and why it got the title Duck Dipping.

It was rather cloudy and I wanted the least possible photo noise, with the fastest possible shutter speed, EXIF on this image is as follows:

ISO: 200
Speed: 1/320th
Aperture: F/9
Focal Length: 400mm

I would have LOVED F/16, but that required me to have ISO 1600 @ 200th, very weird lighting yesterday.

Yes I think I do have one without the duck. If i do, i'll upload it really quick in a few mins

You used your new 400mm baby well! If you are still hand-holding that puppy, then I agree that the DOF couldn't be improved without sacrificing shutter speed without changing ISOs.

I like the amount of blur on the duck. Just enough that you know what it is and what it is doing, but not to sharp as to detract from the goose.

I like the angle at which the bank cuts diagonally across the frame. You should print a large copy of this and hang it.

I think it needs a framing on photo. I'm very poor at leaving any framing. Could somebody put a dark gray or black frame of some pattern around the image that you feel suitable? Thanks!

I'm getting a photo printer monday or tuesday, paid $32 on ebay. Canons cheapest, does 4800x2400 :-) I'll print it and see what comes out of it.

WOW my arms are sore now, carried it around for 45 mins, shot 130 pics, the beast is so enormous! right forearm for holding the camera shutter side... need to bring my mono next time.

It's tough to frame this, because you don't want to get too busy with it. What do you think of this:

I think the white border is too thick, maybe half that thickness, and it will look fine.
