I like the composition and the colors but I wish all of the apples and drops were sharp.

Agreed, if the subjects were sharper it would be better. You also cut off some of the subject at the bottom.

Agree with the others, would love to see everything in focus. And the rest of the ones in the foreground. The colors are great, though. Not sure if you were shooting this with a macro lens, or what mode you were shooting in.

    BLSmadrid,

If only the bottom 2 apples were in the photo and in focus and this would be excellent.

thank you very much for your comments, I'm listening and next time will get them all in focus (hopefully). actually I was aiming at the droplets, the two bottom apples were whole, I cropped because of the shadows. thanks for your time, bye!

If the shadows on the bottom 2 were a problem, you may want to try to clone them out next time, or try to recompose.

Yeah, I can see that your focus is more on the water here...and I think you could vastly improve the picture by cropping closer to the droplets. I would try to crop out the more out of focus fruit, but keep the sharper ones...you have a nice reflection in the one drop, and the colors are good.

Can you post the image with the bottom two apples in the picture? Even with the shadows...I'm just curious.

Payn**: hahaha, I'm afraid that surpasses my editing capabilities! I think your suggestion - to recompose, is more up my alley!
Emily: here's the whole picture you asked about.

Much better, now a bit of dodging on the leading apple, e.g.

Hope you don't mind I took the liberty

I think you have a good start to the image but many things could be changed to get to that pro art level feel of the shot. Some of what has allready been said. i would like to add that lighting and background play a big part in how the eye is drawn to frame. The background in your image is pretty simple and the colors dont help or hurt the images in the foreground.

I don't mind at all, on the contrary, thank you! now, it does look better, but what did you do to give more light naturally ? (sorry, haven't understood the "dodging" ...) thanks!

I used either Photoshop elements or Paint Shop Pro can't remember which was open when I did this but essentially I used the dodge tool and made it large enough to fit the cherry, set it to about 20-26% or so and selected highlights and just gave it a quick click of the mouse which lightens up that part of the image covered. Took about 2 secs to complete.

This is just the same as you do in a dark room with prints from film when you place a piece of card over part of the image to underexpose it. But its less experimental with digital as you can see it happening.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Roger for the explanation! just perfect. I rarely use photoshop (have it installed but tend to use other programs), will investigate, because obviously I'm missing useful tools (can't help but think of Dicken's Artful Dodger here ....)

Personally i feel like the range of your DoF is off. IMO you shouldve had the middle ones in focus and the front and back ones out of the DoF (or maybe just slightly in). It seems like your focus is on crabapples that arent even fully in the picture.

I can see why you may want the focus down there (because of the water drops) ... and if you do, then maybe moving your camera down a bit or zooming out a bit (or walk backwards ;) whatever your prefered line of travel). Or even changing your angle. Either way, something doesnt compeletly click with this picture. I love the colors and the setting... i just think it can be better.

Great shot nonetheless! im being picky tonight and im not even sure way.

edit: i just saw your full version of the picture (hehe, i have the tendency to overlook those). it looks better, but i still think your DoF is off, and you couldve caught some pretty sweet drops if you wouldve had it on the middle of the picture.

Wow, freaky blur in the background.. I really like how the bright reflection(s) seem to glow. Overall the image is really neat from a color and tonal perspective. But I wish that the drop was a little bolder. It seems to be hard to see, therefore, the pic seems to lack a 'strong' subject. Anyways, nice use of DOF

Jessica, thanks for writing, I appreciate the analysis and agree that the shot could have been better, will have to practice more! Thanks again, bye!

ha! the freaky blur was what was left of a light snowfall. the drop was tiny, don't think those little twigs could have held a bigger one for long, all the same, agree with you, it would have helped to have a bigger and better drop on hand, reflecting the fruit. thanks for your comments, I appreciate them. bye!
