Don't Let Winter Die Yet ...

Another from Canyonlands NP, Utah. Taken last Dec, I shot this with my Mamiya 645 and Kodak 100VS film. Got a very blue cast and when I removed it the image tended towards the noisy side. Removing the noise may have softened it up a bit. Comments?

    eh.
that's about all I can come up with. Normally canyon shots have some element of grandeur to them, but it's missing here. the fog is nice, but somehow misses being mysterious as it sometimes is. the light is quite flat, so the drama is reduced. I don't know...

Yeah Iguanamom, I kinda feel the same here. I wish it had just a little more pop, but with lighting like this it just wasn't there. I think canyons are slightly overrated but there are some good photos of them out there. They usually include the whole package though: lighting, angle, composition, foreground, etc.

Thks for taking a look - GB

you know GB, with all these canyon shots you've been shooting, one thing I really like about them is the less visible areas contrasting with the clearly visible areas. The fog was doing a good job de-emphasizing some parts of the shot for you so that you can draw more attention to others.

The fog gives this shot some really nice depth. I love the muted colors and, as Liban said, the juxtaposition of clearly visible with not so much. I also love what's going on in the sky.

I may be one of the crazy ones, but I don't want winter to die just yet, either.

Thanks fellows. You've identified exactly what I also see in this day's shots: a pretty neat graduated foreground to background effect provided by the haze/fog. The shots may not have much punch due to lack of sunshine, but at least they have mystery.

Winter isn't dying just yet here in San Diego, anyway.. cold and wet, even hitting the low 40s a few days ago. Maybe I'll truck up to the mountains tomorrow and see what it looks like.
