    Don't forget to duck!

Hi all .. over the weekend I went to a wildfowl sanctuary .. this little fella appeared on a fence. He isn't ringed, so I presume he is wild. I would love to know what kind of a duck this is. As always, comments are welcome.

    Cheers

    Mike,

Very pretty bird........ Looks like he's enjoying the summer like everyone else. He seems verrrrrrrrrry happy.

The shot's colors are very deep, esp the greens. It seems like he could be a little sharper - perhaps the DOF is not as deep as it could be (not sure). I like the lens you have, whatever it is... It creates a very nice out of focus/blur area behind the subject.

I am not found of the fence (mostly because of its industrial look which doesn't seems to fit with the duck) but the colors and the exposure are luscious. I really get the impression that the duck is deliberately posing. That's unusual.

    Re: Don't forget to duck!

Thanks for the comments guys. I know exactly what you mean about the fence - animals are not always cooperative in their choice of perch! As for the lens, it was my Pentax 80-320 (multiplied up by 1.5 as it was on a digital body) - it was quite cloudy and I had it set on 1/1000 sec, so the aperture was pretty well wide open, hence the very narrow depth of field.

    Hi Mike,
i like the expression of the duck a lot. I have no problem with the fence but dont like the pole. The black feathers of the duck seem to blend in the background. Nice try!

I like the photo. I think the duck is kind of ugly (in a cute kind of way) but that is of no fault of your own. I think the shot could have benifited more from a landscape view though.
