    Dome

I really don't know about this one. Just throwing it out there. maybe someone somewhere might like it. Another long exposure shot at ISO 200.

    Re: Dome

great shot... there's a thread talking about HDR (as you know) and this would be the perfect scene to do it with (to get the top of the dome and roofs exposed correctly)

Lovely. Your night shots have a ethereal quality about them. this has great colors and composition. You seem to go after scenes that have a very attractive lighting about them.
    Very nice,

    Re: Dome

I think a HDR would have ruined it. I think the shadows are just as good as the lit areas. The sky tops it off.

    Re: Dome

thanks for the feed back guys. wow 4 more comments than i expected. lol. I honestly thought it would get no response.

caleb, thanks for the suggestion. I made the mistake of not shooting in raw in my last trip which i'll never make again! Raw from now on for me since I've started reading on post shot re-exposing and combining exposures. etc.

Gary, yeah dimly lit subjects make for the best night exposures. they pick up light as the shutter remains open.

    Greg, thanks

danic, I wouldn't even know where to beging HDRing a scene like this. It was very dimmly lit so I'm with u, an HDR wouldn't probably work for this.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Dome

I agree that HDR is not needed in this case (anyway, I tend to think HDR is overdone!) The dim lighting and shadows are part of the appeal for this image, as is the slight skewing which gives it quite a different feel than a perfectly aligned image would have done.

Great capture the lighting, the subject all work together very well. I would like to actually see more of the building. Maybe a good subject for a 11-16 lens.

    Re: Dome

I think the frame is outstanding. Does the white mat work with this image? White works with almost anything but sometimes a different color is more daring.. so try a few additional colors and see what you get.

I like the pic of the dome too. I think I would have included more of the bottom (tilted) horizontal too though, as the dome itself is somewhat dark and the bottom horizontal would slice it up. I should be seeing the hunchback of Notre Dame standing on that ledge on the left side .....

    Re: Dome

Mike, yeah it was actually a bit more skewed and had to fix it cause i was shooting up at this scene.

Ray, I lack any wide angles so far. That's gotta be my next purchase, i've suffered a lot for not having anything wider than 18mm or 24mm equivilant.

GB, lol @ the hunchback. The thing about the bottom of the dome was....... argh. construction. All of europe seemed under construction which even though it has to be done, totally pissed me off.

oh and about the different colour matting. hmm. i might give that a try on the next shot. I use white so that people don't commment on the mat itself but the photo.

    Thanks guys
