    Dogs at Dawn

With my love for dogs and for photography i like to combine them both by making an early start whilst away on a trip. Thetford Forest is a regular training venue for husky racing so i make sure i get into the forest by dawn to catch them warming up, you can hear the howls from the dogs up to a mile away as they get more and more excited, its quite an eeary experience if you dont know whats going on. The landscape shot is a view as i approach the edge of the forest.

Bev - Great subject. I like the way you've cropped the hounds and the vehicle (which I'm not sure of what that is - is it just a cart, or self powered ATV?). But looking at the shots, I think you missed the best angle here: a straight on shot where they're coming right at you. That way you can get the expressions of the doggies and their human friends behind them. This would require a pretty long lens however. Might be worth a try, if they're coming by again.

Bev, I like the bottom shot best...I like the trunks of the trees in the background, and the color of the field/grass. I also like the way the dogs stand out against the colors.

Thanks Emily and GB for your comments and advice, they are always valued. GB, i will try and do a head on shot when i go back at the end of May for a fortnight, they will be there im sure, the only thing is they get quite shouty! if you get in their way, and i would be worried about spooking the dogs, i use a 70-200L f2.8 IS USM im not sure if this would be adequate for this type of shot? but you have certainly planted the idea into my head! and i suppose if you want a shot bad enough you have to live a little dangerously! Thanks.

    Bev,

I agree that the bottom one is the best, however I find all of them a little lack luster in the colour department. perhaps a little boost in saturation would help.
