    Which do you like better?

I think #1 is more interesting, bu the motion blur takes away. #2 is a bit more boring, but technically better, I think. What do you all think? How would you improve these?

The first one is better, definitely. More lively, has action and a story. The bottom one is kinda snapshottish. Just my $0,02 of course, I'm just a lowly amateur enthusiast, so take my input with a grain or two of salt.

Re: Which do you like better?

It's a mixed feeling for me.

I like the 1st one for it's background, The grass and it's different tones are better than the BG in the 2nd shot.

The first bird is more interesting than the second bird, but the second bird has a greater pose than the former.

The first shot also has a better focus, where the bg is slightly blurred and the subject is nicely sharp also well lit.

So over all, I'll go for the first shot, although it would'be been better if the bird had a better pose or if it was looking at the camera.

No. 1 without doubt. DOF is also just about right so apart from getting it to pose with a fish in its beak this is good.
