Do any of these have potential? (B&W Lamp)

I was/am attracted to the light and shadows of this lamp. Don't know if it works or not. I played around with the DOF a bit, and I think the last one is the best.

I like the third one the best. I think you got the position of the lamp in the frame just right and I like the way the shadows fall.

I like the 3rd shot the best. All the shots have nice texture.

To agree with everybody else, the third one is the best copmosition. Great black and white tones and texture.

    Nice shot,

Thanks for all the replys and comments.

Do you guys think there's enough in this lamp idea to hold one's interest? My wife made the comment last night, that although she understands what I'm shooting for (pun intended), she thinks the subject is a little boring.

    Hi bmadau,

I like the concept, and I like the third one. However, I do agree with your wife that they do not yet have that "wow" something. Keep trying. Also, I note that they all have moire patterns in the lamp shade -- which is a side-effect of digital technology (and exasperated by reducing the image size). I'd suggest shooting (or scanning) at your highest resolution (RAW if you have it).

FWIW, I too have been posing and shooting the lamps in the house late at night. So, I'm with you on why the subject is intriguing. I've just have not yet captured an image that made me just say "wow".

    Cheers,
    Tim

I would like to see some of your lamp attempts. I'm glad I'm not a lone weirdo going through many attempts to shoot our entry table lamp! The "moir" patterns I think you are referring to is only a result of resizing and displaying on a computer monitor. The orginals were shot at 8mp "fine" mode, as I do all my shooting and in full size it shows all the fabric details in the shade.

    Thanks for the comments!

Here's a 100% crop of the lamp shade.

I like all of them, but i actually like the second one's Point of View the best. Great texture and detail.

All very interesting: I personally like #2 the best since it has the nicest gradients between light and dark. I almost wish you have zoomed out a bit to see more of the shot (they all seem a bit of a tease).

Looking at these I am again reminded of why some people love B&W over color. Seems to work with simple shapes, smooth curves, and patterns.

nothing boring about beautiful lines and textures. I thought your third one really was very clean and the exposure was really nice in representing the difference of the shadows and light and lamp pattern...really nice

I like the top right best. Seems to me they may work best together as some sort of series with a yin and yang approach. (Maybe?)

Thanks for all the positive and encouraging comments.

Here's a color one I've been messing with, also displaying a fancy PS frame that I've recently discovered.
