    Distracting or Interesting.

    Do you find the stuff on the foreground distracting, or interesting? I was trying to "frame" the drummer.

    This is not the way you frame a subject, to me it is distracting for sure.
    The subject is a drummer (a man and his drums, equipment). The equipment are as important as the man. You framed the man using less than 25% of the total frame space and the other 75% is on top of his equipment, which distracts from what he does and the idea of the shot as a whole.

    I think you succeeded in framing him, however because the railing is so much brighter, it becomes the focus here.
    mostly Nikon gear

    The drummer to me is not framed - if you look at the top frame its almost a framed portrait, you would need at least the sticks in the top frame.

    The frame itself is too heavy and distracting to make this work.
