    The Distillery District, Toronto

    Hello all,

Last week end, I was in Toronto. One of the main purpose of my trip being to attempt to Michael Reichmann current exhibit at the Pikto Gallery (more on this to come in the Viewfinder). The Pikto Gallery happen to be located in my favorite area of Toronto, the older city (more on this to come in the Viewfinder as well).

Here is one fresh photograph from yesterday taken in The Distillery District where the Pikto Gallery is.

    regards

    Seb

n.b. I would like to know if you find the color rendering/contrast/brightness to be odd or not. I recently bought the Monaco Optix XR colormeter so my monitor rendering isn't like it used to be. Thanks!

Lovely shot. I love the vertical pattern of the windows, and I enjoy the color. One thing I'd clone out, the little snow patch right above the trees about in the centre of the shot on the bottom. Other then that, great shot and I enjoy it,

This one could be in the Windows gallery. The colors look fine. The snow at the bottom may be a touch washed out? Haven't sucked it into a histogram program.

Seb, an interesting composition and good subject. The old windows and green shutters look fine, soft colors against the earthy tone bricks. I like the composition, but only the blown out snowy area below is bothersome.
Look forward to your threads on viewfinder about the exhibit.

    Hi Seb,
The pic is neat. The different regular shapes are a good idea. The colour harmony of the windows and bricks is good. I find the contrast between the snow and the rest of the pic too high.

Thanks to everyone who have commented so far. I appreciate it.

About the snow... I haven't done anything to it. I simply adjusted levels and eventually brightened the whole frame. One thing that I liked is that it was white for once (usually, I always seem to get a color cast in my snow shots). But I guess that It might be too bright.

Here is an attempt at correcting the situation. Does it look right or does the snow simply look "dirty"???. I burned it twice at 10%.

On second thought, the burning of the snow looks wrong to me. Here is a third version where I simply turned down the brightness of the snow.

I noticed that the overbrightness of the snow was web specific. My full resolution TIF file doesn't display the issue.

Very strong composition, Seb - well seen. The original looks fine on my screen - which tells us very little as I am in dire need of a new monitor...
