    A different pic for me.

I took this shot of this butterfly while doing a maternity shoot, I thought it was kind of neat. Not too bad for a kit lens. I used my 45-150 on this one.

This is pretty. The only nitpick I have is the light colored area in the upper left part of the photo is distracting to me.
My kids think I have one big round eye and a light on my head!

Tyson, this is a pleasing image. Colors are vibrant and sharpness is very good. I could only suggest standing a bit more over to your left so as to get more of the full wings spread and lose the stem in the bg going up though the butterfly.
Still and yet, it is an effective image.

Holly cow man, great C&C. I would have never seen that stem. You have a good eye.

Yes that was well noticed by Gary. You got yourself a very good result here Tyson. The exposure and colours have worked well.

Re: A different pic for me.

Very nice summertime photo. The colors are great. I also really like the DOF, for it seems to create multiple layers in the photograph (in many ways it actually seems like a painting..). I agree that the stem behind the butterfly hurts the shot though. It is still a good shot, but the stem and perhaps the slight excess of other background clutter limits how far the image can go.

Which brings up the observation: to me it's ideal when the other objects are on the sides and that the center/area of interest 'opens up' for the subject. This isn't easy to find a scene like this, but if you can, it does walk the viewer into the spot you want them to see......
I guess I need to get out there and try it myself

Good effort. I'd perhaps crop it veritcally to cut down on some of the foliage competing with your two main elements - the b'fly and the flowers.

Yes the framing need to be focused on either the butterfly or the flower. Great DOF, but a crop is needed.

I agree with Gary. A slight position change to get all of the wings would have helped. Nice to see you posting something a little different.
