    Re: The detail that counts

From a technical perspective I think this is fine. The exposure , lighting is ok, ( actually i think I would prefer to see more light on the thumb area than the fingers behind the glass) and the sharpness as well. I do not understand the idea, or reason behind the shot, though. It really does not speak to me or give me any interest to view at any length of time. I'm not saying it is a bad photo, only that it does not offer me, personally, anything to hold to. What is it that you are trying to bring to the viewer with this image? Perhaps I can offer a better idea of what is not working for me, and what might help to achieve it.

I have to say that I agree with Gary, you have done a great job of delivering a sharp image but I just don't really know what I am supposed to be looking at. For a moment I was wondering if this was originally taken with the glass in a vertical position and now you have rotated the canvas? One idea to add a level of interest to the image would to have water pouring into or out of, the glass?

lol to tell you the truth the only reason I posted it up here was because I thought it looked kinda cool. There is no purpose behind it and I can't think of one but I should try the water thing coming out of it.
    Thanks again guys.

    Xsport,

I kind of like it. As Harriot and Gary pointed out, on technical terms, the shot is great. I love this random, almost "arts" type feel to it. A great, random, abstract shot in my mind.

    Well done.

    Re: The detail that counts

I can imagine someone about to launch the glass at a dart board or bin. or someone just emptied the glass as in just finished drinking from it. Works for me but then I think I need help!!.

As the others have said technically excellent and I like it.

"kinda cool" is good enough for me. I have a few shots that I like for no other reason than i think they were kinda cool, also. How about doing a set of shots like this that only show the hand holding a glass, but in different positions. Possibly like showing different drinking positions. All with the same look and feel aesthetically as this one. I'm thinking like 7 different compositions each showing a different moment in a person about to take, or empty a drinking glass. I think the image would hold well in a series of such rather than standing on it's own as this is now.
    Just an idea

nice shot I think it would just need tidyed up a bit e.g the glass could be cleaner, just out of intrest how was this shot lit i can see you had 1/500 @ f8 over here we would struggle to get that in daylight
