Denali

Very rare to have any sun at all this year. Denali showed most of himself on this morning, later he was out in all his glory, but harshly lit.

I really like the faintly lit background mountains against the warm, rich glowing green foliage in the middle. I think I would crop out the entire lower portion of the image right up to the greens. The The three different layers are not working well in complimenting eachother her4e, but the green and the mountains would be very strong.

I think the fact that there's three elements in the shot is OK, but I think I would take Gary's suggestion and crop out the water. If it were a nice blue instead of a foamy scene, I think it would be harmonious with the rest of the image, but as is, it seems out of place. If this water was contaminated (not saying that it is - it could be natural) it would almost work as a poster for why we need to stop environmental pollution. I guess placing things in comparison to other things makes us evaluate their aesthetics wrt to the other objects.

That's pretty normal for a river in Alaska. What you are seeing there is the typical dirty brown water, and a bit of a braided river bottom. The brown patches are the river bottom that is currently above the water line, in the course of a spring the river pathway may look completely different. The river is very shallow and has a pretty good current, it also has some wind on it. I can see that a crop of the river may improve this image.

I was thinking exactly what Gary wrote. Crop out the river and have a nice pano. I love the lighting and the scene.

Hmm. I like the original vantage point (photo) the best. Looks really nice to me! Would prefer the sky be more saturated, but the water and foreground density is perfect.

I like it with the river and knew it was glacial runoff that makes it appear that way as many of our rivers in Wa do. I prefer it because it is what it is.
The sky does need more contrast but I don't know how that's done,(yet). Neutral density or polarizer would have helped I think so its something to think of next time.
I also think its one of those photos that looks better BIG.

For what's it worth, I like the photo that has all the elements and the original vantage point. Sort of reminds me of scenes of large vistas. Like in a western movie whereby the camera shows a closeup of a scene then pulls back keeping the same viewpoint thus exposing the whole scene of mountain,
grasslands, water.if that makes any sense
