    Deep in thought

I love this image of my daughter. Probably because it's not the usual cheesy grin type stuff.
As always your thoughts are much appreciated.

Alison - Good shot, but maybe cropping out the other areas would add to the shot. The foreground book (?) for ex seems a distraction to me. The tilt -- not sure about it. See how everyone else feels.

They are actually pizza boxes with colouring books on top lol.
The tilt was in camera I wanted to capture a little of what was going on and it's funny you should mention cropping just a bit more out but was too afraid to do that.
I'm always worried about cropping too much out.Perhaps I should take the big leap hey? lol

    Moments later...

    Hmmm I'm not so sure

I like that the framing is un orthodox. Nice portrait.

Seems better to me Alison... even though the surroundings are OK, I still like it cropped more.

I think the density is too even. I tried bumping up the contrast a little and sharpening it a bit. What do u think?

Yeah I tried looking at it with more contrast and an extra sharpen but I thought it looked a little too grainy. Although, I think you can get away with grain in a B&W can't you?

About the crop...I'm still not sure

Yes, I see what you mean.. the grain is there (I couldnt see it on my laptop's screen). But it doesn't see too awful bad - like you said it might be Ok w/ B&W.

It depends on where the grain is. It is fairly easy to selectively get rid of it from large areas using PS or PaintShop Pro.

I like the uncropped picture personally but the extra contrast would help. You get pulled into the image more with the little girls with their attention on what there doing and your daughters attention on somehting totally different. In the cropped image I actually found the single child in the background a little more distracting. The first also has a great vanishing point perspective (forget the actual term). I think the grain works in this shot and the B&W.

Beautiful photo Alison! The crops are nice but I like the orginal shot most. Always a joy to see your work.

I'm thinking of trying to use my Canon 50mm all day Saturday. I hope you will participate!

This shot is very pleasing; I love the angles and the look on your daughter's face.
    Refreshing and different. Good work.

    Re: Deep in thought

    Hi Alison,

I think the crops are okay, but I strongly prefer the original. I like the angle, and I don't mind the grain. I find grain acceptable, and often times pleasing in B&W shots. The only thing that bugs me is the bright white hands. I might try to burn them in a little so they don't stand out so much.

    Great candid shot!

    Paul
