    Death by neglect

this photo has a bit of photoshop touching just to soften the pedals a bit, and was cropped as so the background was not topic, but big kudos to the person that can give me the generic name of this plant attempting to metamorphoses into a greater plane of existance.

The overall image is too dark.

    Re: Death by neglect

well death was the topic and a darkness feel was what i was trying to convey in the capture,i also did not want the background view to take away from the main subject.i thought anything dying ,a person would want a darker feel for it.
    thanks for your comment.

    Re: Death by neglect

I see what you were going for, but the technical execution isn't quite there. It's too soft, not enough depth of field, and very center-lit, creating a bad light drop-off at the bottom. It's also clipped on the sides, or at least creates that feeling.

Not sure that darkness in the photo will create the effect you were looking for ... seems more to me like what you see in a cave (reminds me of Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico) and does not necessarily represent "death", though I do agree that darkness can represent a tomb/casket etc... would be perfect if the subject was a casket. I think the subject is close to representing that, but not quite.

Anyway -- good eye for this.

    Re: Death by neglect

Death By Neglect is a much too heavy title for this withering and wilting old plant whatever it is and it does not work for me. It does not convey anything morbid at all.
Sorry Polarbear I cannot be any more positive than that.
I have no idea what class of an animal it is but in another life it could be a tulip .

It looks like a sunflower to me, but I agree with the other posts.

    Re: Death by neglect

    Polarbear,

I don't have a problem with the darkness at all. I'm a little concerned about the lack of a clear focal point. The subject fills the frame so much that I'm not sure exactly where to look and I tend to wander all over. I'm guessing that if you were zoomed out so that it wasn't so much a macro, but a shot of the decaying/dying flower instead it might work better.

you all have very good points and thats how we learn from each other and i thank you all for that, the plant is actually from a cucumber ,a seedless cucumber that i sliced and placed into the ground, just the plant grew to a height of over ten feet tall, and just only started to bloom in this month.i will take all advice in consideration on the next exposure, again thanks.
