    Dawn (panoramic)

Taken in El Paso a few months ago. I sort of like it, but at the same time nothing really jumps out. C&C welcome.

I agree with you. Maybe if you layered the sky. lowered levels a little. I would clone out the telephone poles on left...anddd on a duplicate copy take out the live trees and leave the dead one.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

I think the composition works as is but the fairly dull sky keeps the overall impact down.

That is one of those shots that a local can keep going back to until they get a killer sky and image that a tourist just can't get.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I kind of like the blandness of it, but that's just me.

I would definitely NOT clone out the telephone poles.

I'm wondering, is there a slightly different vantage point from where you could shoot this that would let you balance out the trees in the foreground with the higher peaks of the hills in the bground?

    Re: Dawn (panoramic)

Hey Rod - Thanks for taking a whack at it. I guess the telephone poles being outta there are OK, though I think that they also can make some shots look rustic and vintage. But I prefer the bushy vegetation to stay, it looks creative or something.

I'm also not sure if the more colorful sky is better. Sometimes 'bland' is good - usually not perhaps, but here there is just so much open space that maybe the vacantness of the image and it's average day look is what works in my mind. Guess I can't tell.

Mb, totally agree that the one in a thousand chance usually isn't the best. You just can't control the lighting, other than go at times of the year when you think/hear that it's best !

Dr - Ahh, a competing vision! This was an easy spot to shoot from - most other parts of the east side of the Franklin mountains you would have to hike to. A little hard to do in the darkness. Thanks for your thoughts too!

Now how do you print it? I have a few I want to get into print but finding hard to find someone to print them big enough especially at this length.

    Nice work

I know you can buy printing paper in rolls, although I have no idea how much that would cost. I think most printers can be set up to take rolls. That would be one way to print panos.

    Re: Dawn (panoramic)

Hey Roger - I don't even try printing on a home printer, the cost of ink is just prohibitive, plus they start fading after only a year or two. I use a pro lab here in town called Chrome (chromedigital.com) that, like Mike said, uses rolls that can print as wide as you want (assuming you provide them a big enough graphic with enough pixels). If all else fails, maybe Chrome can print and mail it to you from California ?

I didn't realize Chrome was a national chain, I thought the only one was here in DC. BTW they are THE place to go for film printing and developing for B/W in the DC area. I have a friend who is a spotter there.

    Re: Dawn (panoramic)

Cindy - I remember Chrome from when I was back in DC. I don't think it's the same place: this San Diego lab is technically named Chrome Digital and it's locally owned and operated.

Btw, funny how the suffix "chrome" won't mean anything to the new generation of photographers, eh... ?
