    Dawn Of A New Day

Here's a shot from this morning a little after sunrise. Half of me likes the simple subject, the other half thinks it need just a little something more. Maybe a seagull or something?

Aaron, this looks real strong. I feel it appears a little too contrasty and dark, but i know that is your thing. Very good.

Thanks Gary What can I say, I tried going with the whole lighter, more color thing but, it's just not me Though I do really like the processing on your "Girl & Exhibit" shot so I might have to try experimenting with something like that sometime.

    Happy Shooting,

This looks.... alien... and not in a bad way. If there were a huge moon in there, it would be absolutely stunning. I really like the way it draws you in. Well done!

It does set a nice mood and has a sureal look. If the sky was more balanced I feel it would be a little better. Over all it's a good picture.

I like it but would like it more with less sky.

Beautiful as is. I think the rocks are strong enough.
I don't want it, I just need it...to breath ...to feel ...to know I'm alive.

I think it looks really nice, i dunno how to describe it, it just has a nice feeling to it. Looks a tad bland because of the black and white but if i was too see it in colour i think it would look pretty nice too.

Re: Dawn Of A New Day

Thank you very much for the input everyone

Greg, I agree with you on the sky. I was trying to avoid shooting into the sun, which is just out of frame to the right. It doesn't look that off in it's unedited state but, ramp up the contrast and it is clearly visible. I might play with the editing a bit more. See if I can't equal out the sky.

Aaron, I like your composition. The rocks lead right into the scene. Maybe a little too dark at the bottom, but a minor nitpick. Well done.

I really like the textures and shapes in the rocks and sand.

For me, the sky does nothing so I would have omitted it altogether.

    Good eye.

Re: Dawn Of A New Day

That is one great B&W shot. I think the contrast is great, I wouldn't change it. Although I'm afraid the sky might need some work in terms of brightness (try masking everything but the sky, then blending in a black to white gradient to cancel out the difference in brightness. Screen might work.)

Re: Dawn Of A New Day

Aaron - Nice work, but I somehow feel that the bottom is missing something -- perhaps detail, since it is so much darker than the rest of the shot. Given that, you might want to consider strategic lighting in the sense that the bottom is dark and the middle/upper area is lighter, so the viewer's eyes will automatically be drawn to the lit up area. But as I see it, there's just nothing there where my eyes are drawn. Maybe less sky would make it better, but to me that isn't really the problem.. just the lack of something happening is. Oh well,

I think it looks very nice and I especially like the B&W. It reminds of a feeling I get at my favorite beach that I frequently visit in the dreary winter months of Seattle--a feeling that would be lost if it were in color. Is this by chance taken at Shilshole?

Re: Dawn Of A New Day

Thanks for the input everyone and I apologize for the delay in replying. Been in bed the past couple after getting knocked on my arse by en evil cold/bug I did try playing with it a bit more based on the above suggestions and I just couldn't quite get it to come out"right". It just seemed to loose it's feeling IMO. Maybe my "eyes" are biased as I see this scene everyday??? If anyone wants a crack at editing it to show what they mean, please have at it
