Just another theme I've been doing on and off. This was taken at night of a church in Harlem.

I really like this as well. I love the repitition of the metal grates. It adds an interesting pattern to that of the bricks. And the black and "pink" color really works well.

Gary, I am thinking that the lighting here could be a tad more dramatic (I am being picky here, the light is already quite moody but a duplicate layer set to overlay with a low strenght such 30% could probably do the trick) but I love what I am seeing for the rest. Your composition is dead on.

I want to see more of them, more!!!! lol

Hmmm! This is the second time today I can't decide

My problem is the pink door, one minute I like it there but the next I don't. I can't decide if the door detracts from the humour of fire escape violators sign and the barred window, giving me an escape route.

However I love the colours and the mood of the picture and I agree with Seb other than it might print better than shown on the monitor as is.

If I ever get round to making a decision on this I'll let you know.

A very good one Gary.
I think the unusual colours give it the atmosphere as much as the actual composition. With the grilles on the window I think it was a great (LOL Grate!) idea to include the grilles on the floor. Lots of fire escapes to be violated.

Seb . . .I appreciate your suggestions, and will give it a look see before printing. ( I usually like the multiply layer for that sort of thing.) this scene is from a place in Harlem I had told you about on your last visit into the city.

Roger . . .your concerns about the inclusion of the pink door at the right is well taken. I did not want the sign up against the edge of the frame and wanted just enough of the door to make it relevant.However, i think I agree to an extent that I may burn the door in some to make it less demanding of attention. thanks for the time to comment

Tom . . .yes, the unusual colors , and dingy appearance along with the sign really caught my eye for a long time. I always passed by this scene but never had an oppurtunity to capture it. Glad you like the inclusion of the grilles on the floor, I just did not want to leave them out. thanks for the time

Excellently composed. I would not have known this was taken at night without you mentioning it. Love all the textures and geometric shapes.

Sebastian, thanks for the time to comment. Actually, it was also drizzling out at the time, to my disappointment as it cut short my planned night shoot in the Harlem area. I am really finding that I like the effect the street lights give to scenes at night. This was about a 15 second exposure. The original photograph had a reddish colorcast , i guess from the artificial lighting, and so i used the gray point adjustment in PS to bring back the original color of the scene.

thanks Anew, I'm trying to make time to get back into shooting, as i have been getting side tracked one way or the other lately. I appreciate the good words.. . .
