    D.C. Fireworks ~ Another View

I saw the fireworks too! But I was in Virginia on the roof of a friend's building behind the Iwo Jima Memorial. Here's the view from there.

Oops! That's actually a flub from fiddling with the white balance. Those are supposed to be white. Oh well. . . Thanks for commenting echo, I guess you are somewhere in this picture of the D.C. lineup as well. Funny how you keep wandering into my pictures! Just kidding! Hope UMD is treating you well! Nice to have you in the area.

The fireworks themselves are great, but I especially like your angle. Including these iconic monuments in the frame of this particular subject was very appropriate, and smart. Nice job!

CL - Not bad at all... I sort of prefer the second one even though the first's government building adds a nice touch. I wonder if a position like right next to that building, where you have it in 1/2 of the shot or something, aimed up, with the fireworks going off above it, if that would have also been a good vantage point? But then you'd have to fight all the crowds for space (not so hard to do if you're alone and just want to stand...)

Thank you Charm! Welcome to the PR boards. I have enjoyed the work you have posted so far and look forward to seeing more from you.

GB - Thanks for commenting on this one. I was on top of a building across the river from the event so no real chance for a change of angle. I have attached another image so you can git a better idea of the vantage point I was shooting from.

I'm also attaching a readjustment of the one I blew the white balance on just because. I fixed it when I finally got around to really editing these today. RAW certainly is a wonderful way to capture. . .

Nice stuff, Cindy. I've never shot fireworks, and it looks like a challenge.

Re: D.C. Fireworks ~ Another View

    Hi John,

Thanks for commenting. Doing the pictures is the best part really, it was so easy. The hard part is the hook up to be on the roof of a nearby hotel during the fireworks to get the view. Once there I set up the tripod and the camera and waited for the show to start. I shot these RAW at ISO 400 F11 with a 4-5 second shutter speed. I used a remote to activate the shutter so as not to have any camera wobble, and that's about it.

    It was a good show!
