    Cup o' Juice

Taken with my new fisheye. The only con about the shot is that it is high noise, ISO1600. I cant use a flash with this lens because it casts a shadow on the subject. Let me know your thoughts! First photo in the critique section in quite a while(6 months + I believe).

    Re: Cup o' Juice

I like the shot. Composed very well and good focus on the eyes. The bg is not distracting here, even though there is alot of it, because the super wide angle lens brings the subject in front out larger than life. I like how the girl is peeking up over the cup, and the color of her eyes almost match the cup. Good stuff.
btw, it would be great if you would write a review of the new lens and tell us what you think, pros and cons. Does not have to get technical

Thanks guys! :-) Glad you like it.

ZL4life: My monitor is horribly calibrated and actually, I did do some sharpening and contrast. I didnt want to over sharpen because ISO 1600 is already noisy enough. Contrast on the other hand, looks very good on this picture imo. The monitor im using is very high contrast though. not good for photos. Take a shot at p+ping it if you want to. On my monitor its all guess and check work. Only real way to tell is to print it. :-(

gahspidy: I'll be doing a review of both lenses tomorrow or the day after once I get a feel for how to use them well. The 8mm is a no brainer, so that review should be up tomorrow. The 70-200, being a more expensive lens, I'm going to nitpick much more. I just did some star trail shots, and the F/2.8 brought out so many more stars than did my F/5.6L 400mm for my 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS @ 135mm, F/5.6. I have a quick summary in the Canon gear section if you'd like to take a look.

**wrote the review about two minutes ago. off to bed now!

I think that the wider lens you get without being a fisheye the better your star trails will be. I use a 28mm and it does very well. Also open the aperature as wide as it will go to bring in the most light.

    Re: Cup o' Juice

great subject and you have made good use of the fish. Is this taken off of circular format? The sharpness is either lacking a bit or the focus was just missed, it seems that it may be right between her cup and her eye. SHooting this close will make the DOF very shallow, especially if you're shooting at ISO 1600 you're probably dealing with a large aperture. taking your image into photoshop makes it look much better than here. The reason it looks pretty unimpressive here is just because you didn't assign a working profile to it. here it is with a curves adjustment, sharpening, and dodgin, then an assigned profile.

a little noisy, yeah, but as you said, its 1600. do you have an external flash or just off-camera? If you have an external, just bounce it off the ceiling and it will help you with lighting.

great eyes! I love taking photos of people with great eyes.

    Re: Cup o' Juice

livin4lax09, It was a regular format camera with a fisheye lens. I just have to say that is quite a drastic change on my monitor. My second LCD shows it much better I have just realized, but thats hanging on my wall 8ft away. :-( Thanks for fixing it up for me and thanks for the tips!

I only have the built in flash from the camera. I have my fathers old Nikon flash which fires when you open the shutter, but it always whites out the image, very very overexposed. No ttl, only very confusing manual controls. Its from 1978, so its not too advanced. lol.. Planning on getting a flash soon.

haha yeah, manual controls are tough but if you plan on doing off-camera stuff, it's good to learn. What I meant about the circular format was actually worded incorrectly, I meant to ask if its a circular fisheye, not a full-frame.

    Re: Cup o' Juice

Its a circular fisheye, but the crop factor of the lens cuts the sides off and leaves black corners. I then further cropped the photo to remove the black edges.
